APM Terminals Pipavav, one of the leading gateway ports in Western India received the first full block train for one of India’s largest agri-food exporters D D International Pvt Ltd. The block train operated by DP World for Maersk, was flagged off from ICD Panipat in the first week of August and reached the port within two days.

The train was flagged off by senior representatives of Maersk. The occasion was graced by the senior management from the train operator/terminal staff, and the port.

Commenting on the occasion, Jakob Friis Sørensen, MD, APM Terminals Pipavav said, “We are happy to receive the first block train for D D International at our port terminal. The connection helps our customers in moving their containers safely, quickly, and sustainably and offers our hinterland customers an additional mode to expand their business in the global markets. Moving the consignment by rail is safe and sustainable that not only reduces the congestion on the road but also helps in reduction in carbon footprint.”

The new service further strengthens the port’s connectivity to the hinterland. The containers carrying rice are destined for Jeddah and Dammam in the Middle East.

APM Terminals Pipavav is India’s first public-private partnership (PPP) port terminal and the first port to be connected to the DFC in India. It is a part of the APM Terminals global terminal network.

The port terminal is well connected to the varied belts in northwest hinterland via rail connecting the hinterland customers to the global markets. The terminal’s current annual cargo handling capacity includes 1.35 million TEU containers, 4 million metric tonnes of dry bulk, 2 million metric tonnes of liquid bulk, and 250,000 passenger cars.
